Today we’re going to explain how to set up the sound in Windows 10. In Windows 10 April 2018 Update Microsoft finally added a centralized control with all the sound options of the system to Windows 10, and today we’re going to explain step by step and in a simple way how to use it to set up everything to your liking.
With these options, we can not only choose the speakers and microphone we use on the computer but also adjust its volume. In addition, we will also have the option to change the volume of specific applications for when we want it to be different from the rest of the system.
The sound options in Windows 10
The first thing you need to do is to enter the Windows 10 Setup menu. To do this, open the notification area and click on the cogwheel icon, or click on the same icon when you open the start menu.
Go Into System
Once in the configuration menu, you will see that you have different sections. Here, click on the System option, which is where Microsoft has put the audio options after the last update of Windows 10.
Press Sound Button
In the System menu, in the left column, click on the Sound option. You will enter the menu where the first thing you will see is a Choose the output device option. Clicking on it will open a window with options.
Choose Sound Output
In this window, you will be able to choose the speakers you want the sound to come out of the system if you have several connected, or if those you have to use different options. You can also change the volume below, and there will be a Troubleshoot icon in case you are encountering sound problems.
On the same screen, if you slide it down you will reach the Entry section. Here, in the Choose Input Device menu, you can choose the microphone you want to use in your system. It can be one you have connected or the one from your webcam.
Other Sound Options
If you keep downloading, you can click on the Application Device and Volume Preferences option if you want to change the volume of the applications. By doing so, you can make the sound of certain apps that are currently open to you sound less than the rest.
The first thing you’ll see in this menu is a general sound setting for your device. Here you can change the output (speakers), input (microphone) and overall volume again as you did on the previous screen.
And just below you will see a list of all the applications you have open. In each application you can change its volume, being 100% the one used by the rest of the system. You can also change the input and output devices if you want to use a different microphone or speakers in certain applications.
